About Us

Khalsa Aid is a UK-based humanitarian relief charity providing support around the world to victims of natural and man-made disasters such as floods, earthquakes, famine and war. To date, there are 5 chapters of Khalsa Aid in countries around the world including Canada, United States, Iraq, India and Australia.

Our teams across the world are often one of the first on the scene to help distribute food, water, clothing, medical and sanitation supplies. We fund and build semi-permanent shelters, if needed – anything that’s required in those early days to save lives, reduce people’s immediate suffering and help maintain their dignity.

The charity was founded by Ravinder (Ravi) Singh, who was struck by the plight of the refugees in Kosovo in 1999.

Ravi saw the footage of the Kosovan refugees on the news and was inspired by one Sikhi ideology in particular – “Sarbat da Bhalla” meaning “well-being for all” – recognizing the humanity in us all and reaching out to those in need, regardless of race, religion, borders.

I read in the newspaper about a small group who were organizing an aid convoy to Albania – the Sikhi teaching of ‘Sarbhat da Bhalla’ came rushing to my mind.

I phoned the group from the newspaper and asked to join them to help deliver aid donated by the Sikh community who had been extremely generous in giving food and money – within two weeks were on our way with two trucks and a van load of aid to Albania.

Khalsa Aid was born.

Whilst the inspiration for the charity stems from a strong belief in the Sikh principles, our work is by no means restricted to the Sikh community. Khalsa Aid became the first ever cross-border international humanitarian aid organization based on the Sikh principles.

Since 1999, we have been able to provide crucial aid to millions of people around the world: from victims of the Yemen Civil War to refugees landing on the shores of Greece from the Middle East and, the Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar seeking refuge in Bangladesh; to earthquake, flood and hurricane-stricken areas in Nepal, Australia, and the Caribbean. Supporting Syrian refugees displaced in Turkey due to devastating earthquakes, standing in solidarity with farmers on the boarders of New Delhi fighting for their rights and helping rebuild critical infrastructure in Punjab, India caused by mass flooding. Our mission is to alleviate suffering, uphold human dignity, and foster a world where compassion knows no limits, holding the Sikhi principle of ‘Recognize the Whole Human Race as One’ close to our hearts.

Khalsa Aid is a movement.... a movement powered by the selfless love of our volunteers and the unwavering faith in our collective humanity. We invite you to join us on this journey of service and compassion. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
